Cool new gadgets - Geekie Gadgets Top 5 Camping Gadgets

This device is the all-in-one camping companion that you’ll ever need. It packs a lot of features that make it the best outdoor buddy. For one, it’s got complete maps to help you navigate the outdoors. It also features a 3-axis tilt-compensated compass, as well as a barometric altometer. Add in its 5MP camera and you have a nifty device with you. It’s also very tough and durable, and it can withstand great pressure and strain.
Another great camping partner that you might want to consider is this device, a real life-saver during times when your smartphone loses signal. It’s designed to come to the rescue during crucial situations, and it’s got features that will keep you safe wherever you camp. With this device, you can send your location to the International Emergency Response Coordination Center, send your location to friends, and remain connected to your social network even if you’re in a location outside of the coverage area. It’s also very easy to use by simply pairing your phone with this, and then you’re instantly connected!
Now this device is a 3-in-one gadget that is very functional. First, it’s an AM/FM radio that will keep you updated on the world outside the camp, as well as keep you entertained with the FM music. It covers seven channels, so you’ve got lots of options. Second, it comes with a flashlight with three LED lights for the ultimate in brightness. And third, it also comes with a mobile phone charger. Truly functional, truly unique.

Activities like camping calls for a cowboy attitude, but that doesn’t mean you should be reckless when it comes to the food and water that you take. Protect your health with the Adventurer Opti, a water purifier and a flashlight in one. The device can purify even water of very low temperature, and it’s also ideal for lighting your way as you walk in the camp ground in the dark.

To begin with, it’s triangular in shape. W
eird, maybe, but it’s this shape that makes it easy to haul wherever you’re having fun. The combination of its portability and the way it’s designed to turn into a carrying case makes it the perfect device for grilling when camping. It can accommodate 3-4 burgers, and it’s very easy to clean – the ash pan can be removed for cleaning ease. And lastly, it’s very tough and is perfect for camping environments.

Like all the other mentioned gadgets, this is also a multifunctional device – a water bottle, a waterproof container, plus a renewable lantern. Only, it has an environment-friendly feature because it’s solar powered. It can hold up to a liter of water, and its opening is wider for easier drinking. It comes with four white LEDs and one red LED that make it best for use in dark environments. Unique, huh?

OnLive Player app for iPad and Android tablets meets the public at E3 - funspygadgets

announcing a Player app will bring internet-streamed gaming to the iPad and Android tablets this autumn. Just as we saw, the apps allow for tablets to be used as the screen and touch / motion controller, touch / motion controller for games on an HDTV, or screen for games being played with the new universal wireless gamepad. The fun isn’t limited to just tablets though, the app will work the same way on smaller Android and iOS mobile devices.

Update: We just got our hands on an early build of the tablet app on a Motorola Xoom, and we have to say it looks fairly promising — OnLive added a basic touchscreen overlay that could make sense for games that don’t require dual-analog support. Of course, you’ll want that fancy new universal wireless controller if you plan to take a hardcore FPS (like Homefront) on the go. Sadly, the tablet-as-TV-controller functionality wasn’t ready for prime time, but we did get a peek at a game designed specifically for the touchscreen interface: Ubisoft’s From Dust will have an OnLive-specific SKU.
OnLive, Inc., the pioneer of cloud gaming, is pleased to report that gamers throughout the world can immediately experience the seamless integration of tablets and HDTVs with high-end gaming. Their current iPad or Android tablet and current HDTV will not only provide this experience in 2011, but will provide it with far higher performance, richer gameplay and deeper social integration than any console announced for 2012, with more than 100 games available today.

OnLive is pleased to announce the OnLive® Player App for iPad and Android. Like the recently announced consoles, the OnLive Player App will enable gameplay of virtually all OnLive games on an iPad and Android tablet with touch or OnLive’s new Universal Wireless Controller. In addition, the OnLive Player App allows the tablet to be used as a touch and motion controller combined with an HDTV (or PC/Mac® if preferred), and allows both synchronized or independent video on the tablet and HDTV screen, enabling combined gameplay with tablet and HDTV, or separate gameplay on tablet and HDTV.
Full voice chat-enabled multiplayer is supported, both in-room and with others throughout the world, providing a complete multiplayer experience whether at home or on the go with a mobile device.

Core patent-pending exclusive OnLive cloud gaming features such as massive spectating of live gameplay throughout the world, instant no-obsolescence gameplay, Facebook integration with Brag Clip™ videos, etc., will work seamlessly on both tablets and HDTVs and will continue to distinguish OnLive from consoles, both in 2011 and beyond.

“The power of the cloud is definitely the theme this week, displacing what had been assumed to be platforms that could never be displaced,” said Steve Perlman, Founder and CEO of OnLive. “The OnLive Player App for iPad and Android shows how with the power of the cloud, the question is not whether cloud gaming will be able to catch up to consoles, it will be whether consoles will be able to catch up to cloud gaming.”

OnLive is excited to demonstrate the first game from a major publisher supporting both OnLive’s iPad/Android tablet touch and game controller, as well as running seamlessly on an HDTV, PC and Mac, to be released later in 2011. Come to OnLive’s booth (South Hall, Booth #801) for a demo.

For gamers preferring a smaller screen, OnLive will provide the exact same functionality on iPhone and Android smartphones, allowing them to be used both as game systems themselves with touch and the OnLive Universal Wireless Controller, or as a controller to an HDTV (or PC/Mac), for simultaneous or independent play.

OnLive is also unveiling as part of this experience the first 10 gigabit cloud-based full-featured browser for iPad, Android and HDTV; bringing the full richness of the Web loading from ultra-fast 10 gigabit/second Web connections to OnLive’s cloud-based servers, including support for full-featured Flash and video sites. Mobile and home devices will no longer be limited to the speed of their local connection for Web browsing or Web plug-in compatibility, opening up access to Flash games and social gaming for tablets and HDTVs.

All OnLive games played using the OnLive Player App will play seamlessly across all OnLive-compatible devices, including iPad, iPhone, Android, on HDTV via the OnLive Game System, on connected HDTV and Blu-ray/media players and on PC and Mac.

The OnLive Player for iPad and Android is being showcased live at OnLive’s booth (South Hall, Booth #801) and will be available later this year. For a video presentation please visit http://www.onlive.com/corporate/pressroom.

Walmart temporarily drops iPhone 4 price to $147, not that you’ll be able to find one

With no new iPhone in sight, the retailer is selling the 16GB version for $147 on contract — the kind of stunt we’d expect it to pull in an effort to reel in holiday shoppers. Why do we sound so unappreciative, you might ask? Easy: because you probably won’t be able to get your hands on one. The sale, which applies to AT&T and Verizon models, lasts until June 30, and only an unspecified number of “select” stores will even be participating. No word on how many discounted phones Walmart has to shill, but both the black and white versions are sold out online, which doesn’t exactly bode well for your chances of scoring one in person.

Motorola clarifies position on Android apps, is still cool with developer community - funspygadgets

when Sanjay Jha seemingly threw Android developers under the proverbial bus with last week’s comments, it seemed only a matter of time before the backtracking commenced. Motorola has fittingly issued a clarification on the CEO’s statement, explaining that Jha didn’t mean to suggest that apps were at fault for 70-percent of returns. Instead, they’re a contributing factor, along with poor battery life and slow performance. The company also took a moment to point out its continued support of the Android developer community, just in case anyone on that side was planning on adding to the aforementioned return rate.

It can also beam an SOS message at timed intervals then receive confirmation that help is on the way when you ultimately realize that being at home with a fast connection is really all the adventure you needed anyway. Delorme tells us that the inReach will be available in October for $250 and monthly plans start at $9.95 with a one-year contract.

Xbox 360 Wireless Speed Wheel will arrive in early October for $60, give you something to hold on to - funspygadgets

A new Wireless Speed Wheel has just been revealed, with a reasonable $60 price tag and an early October launch date. As you see above, it’s technically three-fourths of a wheel, but that does allow for extra green bands of lights to be applied and, slightly more importantly, a set of directional and action buttons to be added to the handles of this steering implement. There’s a rumble pack inside for force feedback and a pair of trigger buttons on the underside for smashing the gas or dabbing the brakes.

Sony’s PlayStation Vita: first hands-on impressions - funspygadget

The first thing that struck us is just how light the Vita feels in the hand. It’s got a gorgeous five-inch OLED panel, monstrous for a portable system, but the plastics used in its construction make it seem lighter than the PSP or even some of our weightier smartphones. You’re looking at firm glossy and matte plastic surfaces here, with the Start, Select and Power buttons flush in the glossy front. The face buttons feel small compared to the PSP or a DualShock 3, but they’re firm and comfortable to press, and there’s a nice floating D-pad on the left side which feels like it could handle a Street Fighter shoryuken or three.

The transparent shoulder buttons don’t feel much different than the ones on the PlayStation Portable, though perhaps a tad springier in their action, and between them there are a pair of iPod nano-like volume buttons and a pair of thin plastic covers. One hides the flash card slot, while another reveals a mysterious port of some sort — none of the Sony representatives could tell us what it does, though there’s also a larger port on the bottom of the system which apparently connects proprietary USB and / or networking cables.

Despite the lack of weight, the PS Vita definitely has a bit of bulk, and we have to admit it wasn’t completely comfortable to hold as instructed. There are a pair of smooth plastic indents on the back for your fingers to rest on (when they’re not manipulating the rear touchpad) but they may only work for smaller hands given how close they are to the edges of the system — we found it far more comfortable to rest our fingers on the touchpad itself, which could potentially pose trouble in certain games that use it, though the jury’s out on that one. Speaking of touch, we found both the front and rear screens plenty responsive in early use, and they really do add a lot to well-thought-out games, with both Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet using them to fantastic effect.

Navigating obstacles in Uncharted really is as simple as swiping from ledge to ledge; you can line up a whole series of ledges to have Drake shimmy along by himself; and LittleBigPlanet had us not only dragging objects but intuitively pushing and pulling blocks in and out of the screen with both touchpads simultaneously — building a staircase of Tetris-like blocks.

And how about the dual analog sticks? We’re glad you asked — they completely blow away the original PSP’s analog nub, and we don’t think first-person combat (or most any PS3 port) will be much of an issue. On this demo unit, they were slightly looser than those on a DualShock 3, but we had no trouble squeezing off a few headshots in Uncharted with a little bit of practice. There were other games on display, but Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet were by far the standouts here, and they both look and play fantastic in person. On the 5-inch screen, we have to say neither entirely looked the junior of its console counterpart — given the relatively high PPI, you have to look closely to see the graphical compromises.

We said it before, but we’ll say it again: $250 is a chunk of cash, but it sure looks like you’re getting a lot of handheld for your money here.

HTC Flyer quietly gets over-the-air software update, promises to ‘improve system performance’ - funspygadgets

Over the weekend, owners of the 7-inch tablet should have seen a prompt for an over-the-air update making the vague promise to “improve system performance.” We’re naturally all kinds of curious, particularly given that the battery life and overall performance were already pretty solid. Flyer owners, are you noticing any differences? Do tell.

Nyko cures Kinect’s farsightedness, brings bountiful battery life and alarm clock capability to the 3DS - funspygadgets

the studio apartment set can get in on the gesture gaming craze. Nyko’s Play Clock is a charging dock for Nintendo’s 3DS that doubles as an alarm clock, because you always wanted to turn your 3DS into an alarm clock. Nintendo’s new handheld could definitely use some longer battery life, however, so the company’s also rolling out three new extended battery packs for the 3DS. There’s the Shock n’ Rock that brings thrice the juice, “added vibration feedback,” and four speakers to your personal gaming party, while the Power Grip is an ergonomic external battery that also triples the 3DS’ battery life. Lastly, the Game Boost battery simply snaps on for an extra hour or two of gameplay. Prices and availability remain unsaid.

Leading gaming peripherals manufacturer Nyko Technologies® today announced their upcoming product line-up to be showcased at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), taking place June 7-9 in Los Angeles. The line-up includes Zoom for Kinect, a bold new peripheral that allows Microsoft’s motion-sensing camera to function in smaller environments. Nyko is also introducing a variety of innovative new accessories for the Nintendo 3DS, including new products for charging up, rocking out, and even waking up! Also new this year is a revamped controller dock for PlayStation 3. With a focus on offering real gaming solutions, Nyko continues their tradition of innovation and affordable, high quality design.

“Nyko has been showing off new products at E3 for a dozen years straight, and we can’t wait for players to see the 2011 lineup,” said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing at Nyko Technologies. “With 3D and gesture-gaming, this year is all about finding new ways to enjoy video games. We’ve developed new accessories that bring the fun of gaming to even more players, regardless of long plane trips and cramped living rooms.”

Nyko’s E3 2011 product line-up includes:

• Zoom for Kinect – Specially-designed lenses in a simple clip-on accessory allows Kinect gaming in smaller living rooms and apartments by reducing the distance required for the Kinect to function properly by up to 40%. The Zoom requires no additional power or batteries and is compatible with any Kinect game for both single and multiplayer use.

Huawei teases MediaPad, gives its other tablets a complex - funspygadgets

MediaPad tablet (it’s probably for the best, we’re told some other company has that market cornered). The Shenzhen-based manufacturer did promise a device “guaranteed to transform” your entertainment experience, however — hyperbole that’s not particularly surprising for a company with a propensity for spicing up public statements with quotes from our 16th president. Not a heck of a lot to announce in the spec department, aside from this being Huawei’s “smartest” and smallest tablet — and certainly it does seem pint-sized in the above shot, or else that’s a watch face worthy of Flavor Flav. We’ll know more when the company webcasts the official announcement on June 20th, ahead of Singapore’s CommunicAsia conference. In the meantime, how about an old fashioned Honeycomb upgrade, to keep the S7 Pro’s spirits high?

ASUS MS248B 24-inch display does it all with one cable, thank you USB 3.0 - funspygadgets

The 24-inch ASUS MS248B is brought to life with a single cable courtesy of USB 3.0′s extra current and bandwidth. What’s more, this is achieved with few compromises: the LED monitor is just 16.5mm (0.66-inches) thick, does 1080p with a 2ms response time and has a 10000000:1 contrast ratio (although this last spec requires the usual seasoning). Some extras did have to be thrown overboard to bring power consumption down — there’s no additional USB or audio ports, webcam, card reader or ability to daisy-chain. But then, how much could you achieve with a mere 9W?

Funspygadgets - Apple’s iOS 5: all the details

Keep one tab in your browser locked to this post as we update it with all the new features, and throw another one open for our liveblog where you’ll get to see and read the very latest as it happens.

We’ve now put together the full list of highlights from the WWDC presentation, which you’ll find after the break. iOS 5 will be made available this fall, with compatibility promised for the iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPad 1 and 2, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.

  • Firstly, stats. Scott notes that Apple has so far sold 200 million iOS devices, with more than 25 million of those being iPads. There have been 14 billion downloads from the App Store, tallying over $2.5 billion paid out in revenue to app developers. The iTunes Store isn’t doing badly, either, with 15 billion songs sold.
  • And the first new feature: an overhaul of notifications. At last! A new Notification Center aggregates all your, well, notifications into one and is accessible by swiping down a menu from the top of the screen. Yes, just like Android. Small X buttons alongside each note allow you to dismiss it, though there’s no “clear all” option for the more decisive among us. Notifications are also making their way onto the lockscreen, where swiping across a text message takes you right into it. A little something like Samsung’s TouchWiz implementation.
  • * Newsstand is a new place to house all your magazine and newspaper subscriptions.
  • Twitter integration is also coming to iOS 5, with a single sign-in allowing a multitude of apps to make use of your Twitter credentials. That includes the Camera and Photos programs, finally letting you tweet images out directly from your galleries.
  • Safari Reader is a new browser feature that will strip out distractions and present the text of a webpage with no other excess content. Accessible via a button next to the address bar. Also added to the iOS browser is a Reading List, which does what the name suggests by accumulating a list of pages you want to read later. Accessible on multiple devices. Tabbed browsing is making a debut in v5.0 as well, which is sure to be a boon for iPad users.
  • Reminders is another self-descriptive feature. This one’s intelligent enough to remind you to do things based on your location. It’ll sync across devices and with your calendar.
  • Yay, there’s now a camera button right on your lockscreen! The volume-up button is also doubling up as a physical shutter release key when you’re in the camera app. Pinch-to-zoom is said to be available right in the app, while holding your finger down on a particular area will lock down exposure to optimize the shot for its particular lighting. Some new in-device editing options have also been added, including cropping, rotation, red-eye reduction, and a one-click enhance option.
  • A new split keyboard has also been shown off in iOS 5.
  • Headline feature: PC Free! No more cables required for syncing. Now we’re talking. Setting up and activating a new iOS device can be done right on the device itself, and syncing will be wireless too — there’ll be no need to tether to a computer anymore. Over-the-air updates are also part of the new deal, and in better news still, they’ll contain only the data that’s changed, meaning you won’t have to re-download the entire OS every time Apple opts to make a minor tweak.
  • Another pretty significant novelty: iMessage. It’s a messaging service exclusively for iOS users (irrespective of which device they’re rocking), which comes with delivery and read receipts, an indicator for when the other party is typing, and the ability to push messages to all your devices. Kinda, sorta like BBM. You’ll be able to send messages, photos, videos, and contacts. Group messaging will also be available. It works over either WiFi or 3G and looks to be making good use of Apple’s new push notifications.
  • Perhaps the biggest innovation of all in iOS 5, however, will be the way iCloud affects the use of your mobile device. Hit up our overview post of the company’s new cloud-syncing solution to learn all about it.
  • iOS 5 will ship in the fall to the following devices: iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation.

Steve Wozniak calls us all dogs, in a nice way - funspygadgets

Steve Wozniak has weighed in on the matter, and it turns out we’ve pretty much lost. The Apple co-founder / dancing star discussed the subject with an Australian business crowd, mapping out a future in which artificial intelligence equals our own, and mankind’s own input is meaningless. In other words, “We’re going to become the pets, the dogs of the house.” Woz added that his take on the whole war thing was, in part, a joke — it’s the part that wasn’t that we’re worried about. Though if our own dogs’ existences are any indication, things could be a lot worse.

Funspygadgets - Notification Center for iOS 5 announced

Notification Center aggregates your various app alerts and eschews the pop-ups for a decidedly Android-esque list that appears at the top of our your screen when you you get a Facebook message, or a tweet, or when you miss a call. Swiping down brings you to the list, and swiping across any instance takes you to the corresponding app.

OS X Lion launching in July for $29.99, Lion Server to run $49.99 Funspygadgets

It also includes a new system-wide Resume feature that lets you pick up exactly where you left off, a new auto-save feature that automatically saves different versions of documents, the new AirDrop peer-to-peer file-sharing system, and a brand new version of Mail that finally includes a conversation view.

The big news revealed today, however, is that the OS will now only be available in the Mac App Store as a 4GB download — which installs in place, no reboots — and that it will run you just $29.99 for all of your authorized Macs. It will be available sometime in July, but developers can get the latest preview release today. Head on past the break for the official press release.

Update: It didn’t garner much fanfare, but Apple has also revealed that Lion Server will be available as an App Store download in July as well, with it set to run you $49.99 (a veritable bargain by Server standards).

Apple® today announced that Mac OS® X Lion, the eighth major release of the world’s most advanced operating system with more than 250 new features and 3,000 new developer APIs, will be available to customers in July as a download from the Mac® App Store™ for $29.99. Some of the amazing features in Lion include: new Multi-Touch® gestures; system-wide support for full screen apps; Mission Control, an innovative view of everything running on your Mac; the Mac App Store, the best place to find and explore great software, built right into the OS; Launchpad, a new home for all your apps; and a completely redesigned Mail app.

“The Mac has outpaced the PC industry every quarter for five years running and with OS X Lion we plan to keep extending our lead,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The best version of OS X yet, Lion is packed with innovative features such as new Multi-Touch gestures, system-wide support for full screen apps, and Mission Control for instantly accessing everything running on your Mac.”

New Multi-Touch gestures and fluid animations built into Lion let you interact directly with content on the screen for a more intuitive way to use your Mac. New gestures include momentum scrolling, tapping or pinching your fingers to zoom in on a web page or image, and swiping left or right to turn a page or switch between full screen apps. All Mac notebooks ship with Multi-Touch trackpads and desktop Macs can use Apple’s Magic Trackpad.

Full screen apps take advantage of the entire display and are perfect for reading email, surfing the web or browsing photos, especially on a MacBook Air® or MacBook® Pro. With a single click your app fills the display and you can swipe from one window to another, between full screen apps, or back to your Desktop, Dashboard or Spaces® without ever leaving full screen. iWork® and iLife® apps, as well as Safari®, iTunes®, Mail, FaceTime® and others, all take advantage of Lion’s system-wide support for full screen apps.

Mission Control combines Exposé®, full screen apps, Dashboard and Spaces into one unified experience for a bird’s eye view of every app and window running on your Mac. With a simple swipe, your desktop zooms out to display your open windows grouped by app, thumbnails of your full screen apps and your Dashboard, and allows you to instantly navigate anywhere with a tap.

The Mac App Store is built into Lion and is the best place to discover great new Mac apps, buy them with your iTunes account, download and install them. Apps automatically install directly to Launchpad, and with Lion’s release, the Mac App Store will be able to deliver smaller “delta” app updates and new apps that can take advantage of features like In-App Purchase and Push Notifications.

Launchpad makes it easier than ever to find and launch any app. With a single Multi-Touch gesture, all your Mac apps are displayed in a stunning full screen layout. You can organize apps in any order or into folders and swipe through unlimited pages of apps to find the one you want.

Lion includes a completely redesigned Mail app with an elegant widescreen layout. The new Conversations feature groups related messages into an easily scrollable timeline, intelligently hiding repeated text so the conversation is easy to follow, and retaining graphics and attachments as they were originally sent. An incredibly powerful new search feature allows you to refine your search and suggests matches by person, subject and label as you type. Mail includes built-in support for Microsoft Exchange 2010.

Additional new features in Lion include:

Resume, which conveniently brings your apps back exactly how you left them when you restart your Mac or quit and relaunch an app;
Auto Save, which automatically and continuously saves your documents as you work;
Versions, which automatically records the history of your document as you create it, and gives you an easy way to browse, revert and even copy and paste from previous versions; and
AirDrop, which finds nearby Macs and automatically sets up a peer-to-peer wireless connection to make transferring files quick and easy.
Pricing & Availability Mac OS X Lion will be available in July as an upgrade to Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard® from the Mac App Store for $29.99 (US). Lion will be the easiest OS X upgrade and at about 4GB, it is the size of an HD movie from the iTunes Store®. Mac OS X Lion Server requires Lion and will be available in July from the Mac App Store for $49.99 (US).

Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM. The Lion upgrade can be installed on all your authorized personal Macs.

MSI’s Afterburner Android app makes GPU overclocking as easy as Facebooking- Funspygadgets

At Computex this week, the outfit took things one step further with the Afterburner Android app. Purportedly, the GPU tool enables users to monitor the temperature, voltage and fan speed of their graphics card via a WiFi connection, and if you’re feeling froggy, you can overclock and overvolt to your heart’s content. Details beyond that are few and far betwixt, but we’re hearing that it’ll soon work with GPUs from other vendors, and that an iOS variant is en route.

The leading graphics card and mainboard manufacturer, MSI, today display the Android version of its popular Afterburner overclocking utility for graphics cards at Computex 2011. The pioneering Android overclocking utility was co-developed by MSI and well-known software programmer “Nick Connors”. The new Afterburner utility allows the Android-based smartphones and tablets to adjust or monitor Afterburner settings on PC over a Wi-Fi connection. In addition to monitoring the temperature, voltage and fan speed, the utility can also be used for overclocking and overvoltaging!

This year MSI is demonstrating how to use the Android-based cellphone to overclock the graphics card with the Afterburner app from booth L607 in the Nangang Exhibition Hall; giving enthusiasts a chance to experience for themselves the hottest overclocking technology app for tablets and phones.

The Afterburner app enables Android phones and tablets to monitor or overclock a graphics card by connecting to the Afterburner utility* installed on a PC over a Wi-Fi connection. For enthusiasts who like to monitor the operation of their graphics cards, they can now do so through their mobile phone or tablet, even while playing the FPS games, without having to use a separate display. For extreme overclocking enthusiasts, they can use their mobile phone to monitor frequency, temperature and voltage parameters in real time while their computer is running full-screen testing software. Key parameters can even be adjusted on the fly for specific testing scenarios to make breaking world records in performance even easier. You can even connect to your home computer and check how the graphics card is running when you are away, a particularly convenient feature when running scientific computing programs that utilize the GPU such as Folding@Home.

MSI will be demonstrating the Afterburner app of Android version at booth L607 in the Nangang Exhibition Hall at Computex 2011. Enthusiasts are welcome to visit the booth to experience for themselves the convenient, powerful, and complete monitoring functionality you have when overclocking with Afterburner using an Android phone or tablet PC.

*Wi-Fi connection and Afterburner remote server must be available on the desktop PC to utilize Afterburner features.

Funspygadgets - Ten One Design’s iPad joysticks set to have a mini Fling with your smartphone

Ten One Design managed to shrink down those stick-on iPad joysticks we played with back at CES, bringing the Fling’s screen-cluttering gaming action to the iPhone, iPod touch, and Android devices. The new Fling Mini monopolizes a good deal of its designated phone’s display real estate — and then some — pushing its way well into the bezel of many handsets. You can pre-order the suction cup controllers now at $24.95 for a pack of two — five bucks less than their older siblings. They’re set to start shipping next month and will no doubt get some good, slightly-obscured face time at E3.

Ten One Design, creators of the first capacitive touch-screen stylus for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, has announced the “mini” version of its revolutionary tactile game controller – Fling mini. Expanding on the success of the Fling for iPad announced at this year’s CES, the mini controller adheres to any smartphone on top of the directional pad of any applicable game to deliver ultimate control and superb response for full gaming immersion.

Fling mini’s unique spiral design creates actual physical resistance so gamers are assured of greater directional control. It works with any iPhone or iPod touch game with a directional pad, or virtual joystick, including Meteor Blitz, Aralon: Sword and Shadow, Super Mega Worm, Robokill, Blade of Betrayal and Dink Smallwood, to name a few.

Similar to Fling for iPad, to use Fling mini, launch the game of your choice and secure Fling mini’s center control over the game’s directional pad. Then simply place your thumb on the center control to navigate easily through the game.

The translucent and flexible design provides an unrestricted view of all on-screen action. Plus, the suction cups allow simple attachment and detachment for spontaneous gaming sessions.

The included microfiber bag is ideal for on-the-go storage and doubles as the perfect screen cleaning cloth to eliminate unwanted smudges and fingerprints.

Available in Ninja, the 2-pack Fling mini is available for pre-order now for just $24.95 at www.tenonedesign.com.

Funspygadgets - Evolve III prices triple-booting Maestro S and swiveling Maestro C tablets, unveils cordless NGen desktop (video)

we’ve found out a little more about the company’s latest creations. First up is the Maestro S — a triple-booting slate that, as promised, can now support Android, Windows 7 and Meego. Rocking a 10.1-inch, 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, the Maestro is powered by an Intel Z670 Oak Trail processor clocking in at 1.5GHz and runs on a battery that can last for up to ten hours per charge when running on Windows 7, or up to 18 hours when in Meego mode. The Maestro C will give you all of this, plus that swiveling kickstand we heard about last month. Designed with frequent flyers in mind, the convertible tablet also comes with a wireless keyboard that can serve as a protective, hardshell case.

Rounding out the troika is the NGen — a next-generation, “all-in-one” PC, powered by an Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge CPU. The WiDi-enabled desktop boasts a 21.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 LED, supports Intel HD graphics and packs a 2.0-megapixel, front-facing camera. Weighing in at a little under 13-pounds, the cordless NGen can be folded up for quick transport, or mounted on a wall. Content can also be synced across all three devices, with a Wormhole connecting cord. As far as pricing goes, the Maestro S and C are running for 800 AUD (about $860) and 825 AUD (around $886), respectively, while the NGen, according to an Evolve III representative, will retail for about $1,500 of the green stuff. Unfortunately, this lineup won’t be available Stateside until later this year, but you can find out more in the video that awaits you, after the break.

Funspygadgets - The Sony Ericsson Urushi leaks again: ST18i exposed

ready for a few holes of Lets Golf 2. Inside is a 1GHz ARM processor with an Adreno 205 GPU which, if you’re on top of your SOCs you’d know, means there’s a single-core Snapdragon under the hood. It appears Sony put a meager 335MB of RAM on board — enough for basic use, but it’ll probably get bogged down under heavy multitasking. We can also confirm that this little guy is pushing Gingerbread, with the expected load of customizations, to its 854 x 480, 3.2-inch screen. Hit up the source link for a healthy dose of picage.

Funspygadgets - How would you change Fujifilm’s FinePix X100?

zoomless compacts designed to put DSLR-level image quality into your right (or left, for southpaws) rear pocket. Of course, the compromise is the inability to swap lenses and the omission of an optical zoom, but evidently the market research has shown that there’s a market for this thing, yet. The X100 oozes beauty, but it most definitely comes at a cost — over $1,000 at last check. For those with plenty of disposable income and a hankering for anything new, we’re as curious as can be to hear how your experience with this guy has been. Have you been overly impressed with the design? Would you have tweaked the lens at all? Thrown together a less rigid chassis for the sake of weight / cost? Added an option for an interchangeable lens mount? Go on and get creative in comments below — you’ve earned it.

Funspygadgets - MasterImage touts 4.3-, 7- and 10-inch glasses-free 3D displays, interest from ‘first tier’ device makers

Though nothing major — excepting the Hitachi H001 in Japan — has ever come of this company’s efforts, it’s back at Computex this year with a trio of reference display, showing off glasses-free 3D at 4.3-inch, 7-inch and 10-inch form factors. Resolution on both the 7- and 4.3-inch panels is 800 x 480 at the moment, but there’s a 1280 x 800 7-incher in the works that could be ready for production by the end of this year. The parallax barrier allowing for the autostereoscopic effect to happen adds only 1mm to the screen’s thickness, though it does halve vertical resolution — meaning an 800 x 480 screen will only show a 400 x 480 image when flipped to 3D mode. MasterImage builds the LCDs and controllers in these 3D imagers and is currently in discussions with what we’re told are “first tier” manufacturers of both smartphones and tablets. You can see the 7-inch display on video after the break — we found it able to match the 3D effect produced by displays requiring glasses, which is a good thing in relative terms, but as you see above, the two frames can and do get split up if you’re not perfectly positioned to soak up the third dimension.

Funspygadgets - nfiniTV 4 CableCARD tuner prices are dropping, down to $256 shipped from $399 previously

Lesser known Erwin Computers currently claims the lowest price, while Ceton’s official Amazon listing and those of other resellers like Cannon PC and Fluid Digital remain at the $399 MSRP — for now. The choice is yours — wait for official word and to see if prices drop any lower or click the buy button now and get some (network sharable) cable TV reception for your computer in time for the second episode of Teen Wolf on MTV.

Funspygadgets - Sony VAIO Z21 Series mentioned on various European sites, isn’t actually for sale yet

at least, it lives on — a quartet of Z21 series laptops have surfaced on various e-tailers as the possible successor to last year’s Z11. So far, we’re seeing a pair of configurations with a Core i5-2410M processor and 128GB of solid-state storage and two more with a Core i7-2620M CPU and 256GB in storage. Judging by this sample, at least, 1600 x 900 resolution is standard, as is a backlit keyboard, 3G SIM card slot, fingerprint reader, 3D output, and an HD webcam with Sony’s Exmor imaging technology. Alas, the available specs suggest Thunderbolt’s a no-show, though rumor has it Sony’s implementation of Intel’s Light Peak technology will use USB connectors, of which this has three. Here’s to wishful thinking, right?

The peculiar thing is, you can’t actually buy it yet. F2F lists staggering prices ranging from €1,809 ($2,642) to €2,839 ($4,146), though it’s not, in fact, available. Meanwhile, search results turn up mentions on staticICE UK and Belgium’s Execute, but they’ve been scrubbed from the actual pages. So, it looks like it’s up to Sony to announce this already — and dish up some pictures while it’s at it.
