Luckily Sony’s new HD-PG5 series portable HDD comes with more than the usual hard drive specs and accessories. This storage device comes with value added features that expand your home entertainment choices. More than just 500 GB storage capacity; the HD-PG5U connects to select Bravia models using a USB interface.
This enables direct recording of HD television programs from the TV tuner of cable services. The included USB adaptor also allows easy and simple transfer of video files from supported Handycam camcorders to the HD-PG5U by using the Direct Copy function. This feature eliminates the need to use a computer to backup and save video footages into the external drive. Furthermore, PlayStation 3 owners can use the mobile HDD to directly view stored AVCGD videos and photos using the Filmy software.
The Sony HD-PG5 comes in either black or white minimalist design that blends perfectly with any PC, Bravia TV, and Playstation 3, and weighs about 180 grams. The elegantly shaped enclosure features a scratch-resistant finish to keep the coating looking smooth and clean. To top it off, it also comes with a single blue LED light that serves as a design accent as well as a drive activity indicator.
To ensure lightning fast transfer speeds up to 5 GB/s and shorten backup time, Sony opted for a USB 3.0 interface enhanced by SuperSpeed technology and Data Transfer Accelerator software. Other features include Password Protection Manager with 256-bit encryption technology and automated scheduled backups.
